Every July, on that date when the tide is at its lowest during the mid-afternoon, a horse race is held on Courtmacsherry Bay. It’s aptly called the Strand Races.
This year, a ten-year-old won the first race. As the day progressed, the jockeys were older, but never past their teen years. Still, each whippet-thin boy was required to weigh in with their saddle.
The crowd gathered to place bets and eat chips sold from the Fry Truck.
This year it rained most of the day which made an always muddy event a bit worse. Save for those boys who didn’t make the winner’s circle, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

Great reportage.

Beautiful Collection in rich monochrome. I love candid people shots. That first one with the horses is awesome – very dynamic!

Great set of images, I love the first one in particular but together they convey the story so well. That muddy faced grimace, oh yes!
